Hi, we’re Nicole and Billy, two Californians with a passion for Mexico. We fell in love with Oaxaca for its food, culture, beauty and authenticity. We were proud to employ masons from the local village, and they put their hearts into building a quality home that rewards us from morning to night. We went organic and indigenous, with local tropical hardwoods for rustic railings and wood doors, a thatched palapa roof, polished concrete floors, and amazing stone work. We added native arts and crafts throughout. Now we’d like to share it with you.
One of the main reasons we chose to build in this region of Mexico is the climate. The unique biosphere is more arid, with a short rainy season in the summer. Winters are consistently dry - in the mid-eighties by day, and a comfortable mid-seventies by night. The ocean is always warm and inviting.
Casa Paz is not for everyone. It’s off the beaten track, reached by a three kilometer dirt road that is often rutted and bumpy. A high clearance vehicle is advised - or use taxis. The home is reached by descending 69 steps from the front entrance. The sound of the ocean is constant.
Casa Paz is a cell free zone, one of the few places in the civilized world that is EMF free. We think it’s medicinal, enabling presence with one another.
If you must be connected, there is 3G at the top of the steps, and free wireless at Bahia de la Luna. Or bring a satellite phone.
The home is built sustainably, with passive cooling, rain water catchment, and grey water systems. There are solar coils that heat the showers and kitchen sink by day, but by night the water can be tepid. With the balmy air, we find it refreshing. The rooms are cooled by shade, vents, fans, and sea breezes.
A lovely couple is there to assist, Sylvia and Gonzalo.
